Description: The Kim family are a creative bunch who come from South Korea. The love for the arts started with the grandmother, who collects ceramic dolls from Korea. The mother has a good eye for photography, which aids the father’s profession of being a food blogger, who films food reviews, as she has a studio to help him shoot that is also portable for filming in the kitchen right next door. They have a young 15 year old boy, who is hearing impaired but inherited love for the arts nonetheless, as he enjoys music making.

The living room follows the theme of being an earthy and warm-toned feel, including plantation both in pots as well as for wall decoration as well as different types of wood, used in the wall finishes, floor finishes, lighting fixtures, and furniture. 

The dining room includes plantation and wood types as well as some of the main materials, to create the cosy earthy feel. It is also an area where guests are welcome.

The family members and guests gather in this area to enjoy meals and to appreciate the grandmother’s antique toy collection, which is secured in a fine

china cabinet for them to appreciate, as the grandmother is proud of her collection of these rare findings.

Open plan to allow easy wayfinding and navigation. An open plan is implemented throughout the ground floor as a means to avoid barriers.

The living room is the space in which all family members gather and where all guests are welcome into the home, making it a semi-public area.

This is inspired by the Hanok, being the traditional South Korean home. The fabrics used within the furniture incorporate these neutral and green tones found within the plantation and wood as well.

The family sits on ground level, but slightly elevated, to fit the guests’ comfort as well. Dining and sitting on ground level is a traditional South Korean tradition.
